A New Chapter: Moving Into My Own Apartment at 35

A New Chapter: Moving Into My Own Apartment at 35

October 5th. That is the day I officially move into my apartment, and honestly, I have so many feelings about it.

I am so excited, but I am also terrified.

This is going to be a huge change for me because, for the first time in my adult life, I am going to be living semi-on my own.

I got married when I was 20, almost 21. Before that, I lived with my parents, and then I went straight into living with my ex-husband. So now, at 35 years old, I am finally getting the experience of having my own place and figuring out what it is like to live independently.

Well… mostly independently because my son will be with me half the time. ❤️

And even though I am excited about this new chapter, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t freaking out a little.

My New Apartment

One of the things I am most excited about is the apartment itself.

It has an open-concept kitchen and living room, which is basically my dream.

I have always loved having an open kitchen that flows into the living room. I do like having separate rooms throughout a home, but there is just something about a nice, open kitchen and living space that I absolutely love.

And the kitchen?!

Y’all.

THE KITCHEN HAS AN ISLAND.

I am way too excited about this. 😂

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with cooking. I actually love cooking, but at the same time, cooking can stress me out because there is SO MUCH to do. You have to prepare everything, cook everything, and then somehow there is an entire kitchen full of dishes afterward.

But having a pretty kitchen with an island makes me want to actually enjoy being in there.

Maybe I’ll become one of those people who casually cooks dinner while standing at the kitchen island with a cute drink nearby.

Or maybe I’ll still get stressed out and order takeout.

We will see. 😂

And Can We Talk About the Laundry?!

I need everyone to understand how exciting this is to me.

THE APARTMENT HAS A WASHER AND DRYER.

IN. THE. UNIT.

Do you understand?!

No walking somewhere else to do laundry.

No sharing a washer and dryer with other people.

No wondering if someone is going to take my clothes out.

No carrying baskets of laundry up and down stairs.

And speaking of stairs, there aren’t any of those either!

It’s the little things, honestly.

I feel like having my own washer and dryer is one of those things that shouldn’t be this exciting, but it absolutely is. 😂

The Sunlight

Another thing I love about the apartment is how much natural sunlight comes in.

I LOVE sunlight.

There is just something about having a home filled with natural light that makes it feel happier and more open.

With the open kitchen and living room and all the sunlight coming in, I think the apartment is going to feel really bright and comfortable.

And that is exactly what I want.

I want my home to feel peaceful.

Making It Mine

This is probably one of the parts I am most excited about.

For the first time, I get to completely choose my furniture and décor.

I didn’t really get to do that before.

Now I get to decide what I like, what I want, and what makes me feel comfortable in my own home.

Pink is my favorite color, so I definitely want to incorporate it into my apartment.

But I also want to bring in some green and gray because I don’t want the apartment to feel overwhelming. I want the colors to work together and create something that feels soft, cozy, and calm.

And honestly, I need calm in my life.

I want my apartment to be a place where I can walk through the door and feel like I can finally breathe.

A place that feels like me.

A place where I can decorate things exactly how I want them, organize everything the way I like it, and slowly turn an empty apartment into my home.

The Part That Scares Me

As excited as I am, I can’t pretend that I’m not scared.

I am so used to having someone around.

I’m the kind of person who really enjoys having company, even when we aren’t actually doing anything together. I don’t need to constantly be talking or entertaining each other. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit in the same room, watch TV, play on our phones, or do our own thing while still having someone there.

I just like that comfortable feeling of having someone to share the space with.

That is something I have been used to for most of my life, so going from that to having a place where it will sometimes just be me is definitely going to take some getting used to.

My son will be with me half the time, and I am so grateful for that, but there will also be times when it is just me.

And that is a scary thought.

At 35, I am learning how to be comfortable on my own in a way that I have never really had to experience before.

A Whole New Chapter

There are so many changes happening in my life right now.

And while some of them are scary, I am choosing to be excited about what comes next.

I get to have my own space.

I get to decorate it.

I get to organize it.

I get to fill it with things that I love.

I get to create a home that feels calm, comfortable, bright, and completely mine.

I don’t know exactly what living on my own is going to be like yet.

Maybe I’ll love it.

Maybe I’ll hate it sometimes.

Maybe I’ll talk to myself way too much.

Maybe I’ll become best friends with my couch. 😂

But I know that October 5th is the beginning of something new.

For the first time since I was 20, I get to figure out what life looks like when I am creating a home for me and my son.

And honestly?

I’m terrified.

I’m excited.

I’m nervous.

I’m ready.

And I can’t wait to see what this next chapter looks like.

About Me

Hey, I’m Cerena. I’m 35, a boy mom, and I play way too much Dead by Daylight. I also really like to shop… okay, maybe hoard a little. This is my space to share the stuff I actually like, the stuff I’ve tried, and the stuff that’s just… meh.
